Ed practices in State and Federal Court (Middle District of Tennessee), he has handled nearly every type of misdemeanor and felony case, and he has had many successful trials. The focus of Ed’s practice has been on getting every client a great result.
But prior to Ed establishing his Nashville criminal defense practice….
Ed was born in 1984 at the “Pink Hospital” in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Raised as the youngest of six children by two fantastic parents, he lived in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma until the age of three. His family relocated to Illinois in 1987 where he grew up in the Chicago suburb of New Lenox. At the age of ten, he acquired his first job, working as a paper boy for The Daily Herald. He attended Lincoln-Way Central High School where he played football, water polo, and ran track. Go Knights!
He then became the sixth and final Hastings child to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In the spring of 2006, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Illinois. Graduation day was particularly unique as he began the morning by completing his first triathlon, then attended his afternoon graduation where he sat next to and graduated with his only sister, Holly.
Following graduation, he sought out Southern California. He relocated to San Diego in the summer of 2006 to attend Thomas Jefferson School of Law. While a full-time law student, he balanced various legal positions, coached youth football and baseball, was a SAY San Diego youth mentor, taught surf lessons at Menehune Surf, Inc., and participated in various triathlons and running events. Upon graduating Thomas Jefferson in the spring of 2009, he had completed 3 Ironman Triathlon’s, 12 marathons, a 50 mile run around Catalina Island, and many other triathlons – one in which he swam from Alcatraz Island.
After earning his Juris Doctor, he continued coaching, mentoring and cultivating his legal and business skills through diverse work experience. As a lawyer with Robin Nottingham’s family law practice, a licensed California Real Estate Broker, and co-founder of investment company Big Wave Capital, LLC, Ed acquired invaluable hands-on courtroom, sales, and business experience; skills that are necessary for the effective practice of law.
Heading into 2011 he sensed that he was ready for a change. While visiting Nashville in 2011, he discovered the potential of the city and the refreshingly genuine people. He left San Diego the following month and relocated to Nashville where he established his criminal defense practice.
After five years of criminal law practice, Ed launched Courtroom Coach, LLC in 2017 – a first of its kind resource to help criminal defense lawyers improve their craft.
